UGANDA: HIV services in western refugee camps overwhelmed

Health workers manning five health centres in two refugee camps in the southwestern Ugandan district of Isingiro say they are overwhelmed by the high number of refugees and local residents in need of HIV services.

Severe personnel shortages in Nakivale and Oruchinga refugee settlements have led to long queues at the clinics and placed a heavy burden on the few health workers available, many of whom often have to take double shifts to meet demand. Read full post…

In the year 2002, smoking related diseases has caused the death of over 4 million people world wide. Smoking is an epidemic and if the trend continues, by 2030 one in six people will die from smoking. It is not only bad for the smoker’s health but also harms the environment. Smoking causes cancer of the lungs, heart disease, stroke and harms the esophagus, mouth, bladder and the list goes on. It is also one of the more expensive habits and it costs an average smoker thousands of dollars per year.

New Jersey’s Ben Franklin Elementary is the Highlight of My Week (and a Silver Award Eco-School)

On Monday I had the privilege of traveling to New Jersey with Director Jane Nishida and Justin Harris of the US EPA Office of Regional and Bilateral Affairs  to visit with our partners, Sustainable Jersey, at The College of New Jersey, and the Ben Franklin Elementary Schoolin Lawrence Township, NJ.

But this wasnt just any trip.

The highlight of the trip for me was the visit to Ben Franklin Elementary School.  Ben Franklin is one of our registered Eco-Schools and is a Silver Award school in our program.  Their motto is: “If I work hard enough, I will succeed.”  Ben Franklin is a Pre-K-3 school, and the students are incredibly engaging.  They also have a sister school relationship with Jian-An Elementary in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and their principal, Mr. Christop

An Introduction To The Colonics

The popularity and the use of colonics in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) have become phenomenal! However, there are still a number of IBS sufferers that are not aware of how the use of a colonic can improve their gastro-intestinal problems.

A colonic has been shown to remove waste from the intestine when someone is constipated, prevent the occurrence of constipation in someone who is not, and generally cause a thorough colon cleaning.

A colonic refers to using a liquid, usually warm water to irrigate the colon. This method is specifically used in the treatment of IBS with constipation.

To that end, she has studied the health of more than 14,000 Swedish twins for more than 25 years. On 5 August, she will tell the annual convention of the American Psychological Association in Washington DC what the study has taught her about how to reduce risk for the disease. Nature got a preview.
